Polar bears

1

The polar bear is a big white bear, which lives in the North Pole. It has a black skin, but its white fur makes it seem totally white from far.      The male weighs between 300 to 700 kilograms and the female weighs only half of it.

2

This bear is the biggest predator in the whole world. Its body is strong, it has a short tail, small ears, and a small head. Its small head and ears allow it to swim easily. The layers of fat and fur protect the bear from the great cold in the North Pole.

3

The polar bear is awake and active along the year. It divides its time between hunting and resting. It generally sleeps in its cave during the day for 7-8 hours and at night it goes out to hunt. The rest allows the bear to keep its body’s warmth. The polar bear is an excellent swimmer. While diving its nostrils and ears are sealed so it can dive for long distances quickly.

4

The adult polar bear might be aggressive if it encounters people or other polar bears. However, the young polar bear will fight playfully with its friends, as a natural part of its childhood.                                         The polar bear is in danger of extinction for two main reasons: being hunted a lot and the global warming. That is why several agreements were signed to preserve it.
